One way to make blinkies stand out is to animate them with a small heart, star or other symbol for emphasis. These look cute and aren’t difficult to make. Just follow the steps below to create your own blinkie.
Step 1
For this tutorial you will need to know how to make a basic blinkie. If you aren’t sure, visit my blinkie maker; it will make things a lot easier for you.
Step 2
Make a basic blinkie, only don’t make it animated just yet. Copy this heart >
or this star >
and paste into Animation Shop. Flood fill (
) it any colour you like.
Step 3
Zoom in, click
, then add a red line 6 pixels above your blinkie but across the top, and between each block like this:

Step 4
Now go to Edit > Duplicate Selected, and do this until you have 12 or so frames.
Step 5
Paste the heart or star in the top left of the first frame. In the second frame, paste it in the bottom left. Carry on doing that for all the letters, copying and pasting blank frames ‘after current frame’ if you need to:

Step 6
Wherever the heart/star actually touches the top of the block, flood fill (
) the letter in it a different colour, as shown below:

Step 7
Now click
, and colour all the red lines green and make the image transparent as shown in my transparent .gifs tutorial. Then preview your blinkie to check it works and save it. Here’s mine:
