Vortex

Learn how to create a stunning vortex style effect with this easy to follow Adobe Photoshop tutorial. It’s great for space and sci-fi themes as well as banners and brushes.

Step 1

Follow my 3D Spikes tutorial to create an effect like this:

Step 2

Now go to Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates and choose these settings:

You should end up with something like this:

Step 3

Go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur and change the Amount to 35.

Step 4

Go to Image > Adjustments > Auto Contrast. You should get this (click to enlarge):

Now save. Or, you can go to Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap, and copy these settings:

Finally, colourise to your tastes. You’ll end up with something like this (click to enlarge):
