3D Blocks

This tutorial will show you how to make a cool 3D blocks effect in Photoshop. Great for banners and buttons, this simple guide gives a space-age style result.

Step 1

Create a new image (File > New). Make it any size you want, but bigger shows the detail of the blocks better.

Step 2

Using the Paint Bucket tool, floodfill the image any colour you like other than black.

Step 3

Go to Filter > Render > Clouds, and this will create a nice cloud-y effect (surprisingly!). It doesn’t matter too much about the colour, you can change that later.

Step 4

Then go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur, and change your settings to the ones below.

Step 5

The next step is to go to Filter > Stylize > Extrude, and edit your settings to these:
