So who am I, anyway?
I’m a fairly unusual geek living in England with my long-suffering boyfriend and some kooky cats. Contrary to popular belief, my photos are real, I’m a real person, and no, not all geeks are white, male and wear glasses (although I used to). I’m also not a ‘mommy blogger’ (not that I have anything against mommy bloggers unless they talk about phlegmy poo, because that’s not cool).
I’m 5’2″ and a half, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be a megalomaniac.
I grew up in (which some people pretend is Cheshire because that’s where the Manchester United team tends to live), but I moved to for university and ended up staying. Nottingham is typically associated with forests and Robin Hood, but when you live here you realise there’s actually more of a theme of concrete and gun crime. I live here because it’s cheap and everything I need is within walking distance (apart from Krispy Kremes).
I’m mixed race; my mum is English with a dash of French and my dad Iranian with a smidge of Russian.
I only speak English (and HTML). These days I have to resist putting a hashtag at the end of every sentence, although back in 2008 I . My dissertation was on Chaucer and Gower, and I was relieved to escape back to the web soon after.
I love animals, especially cats. We have four at the moment, all with completely different personalities and quirky traits. Other loves include Nintendo, CSI Las Vegas, frozen yoghurt, Italy, sunny days, diet Pepsi, The Legend of Zelda, pretty dresses, photography, Phineas and Ferb, baking and chick flicks (not necessarily in that order).
Technology
I have a MacBook Pro which I love, but I’m not particularly an Apple fan girl. I also have a Samsung netbook, a Samsung Galaxy S3, a Wii, 3DS, and a Nikon D3100.
Our house is a technological graveyard; we have about twelve or so computers, most of which are far beyond practical repair.
What I do
I spend most of my days blogging, writing, tweeting, Facebooking, pinning, Google+ing and doing professionally. I get to interview lots of influential people, go to geeky conferences, come up with ideas, and be extremely judgemental. I love Mondays (and every other day of the week).
I’m a workaholic. Sixty to eighty hours a week is about typical for me. You’ll know if there’s a problem with the Internet if you’re near me because you’ll hear persistent whining and complaining followed by empty threats.

Things you really don’t need to know about me
- I used to run a pretty successful HTML and CSS help site back in the early 2000s (some people will remember me from my original sites, kutekitten.com and star-girl.org), followed by a very active forum.
- I’m not particularly a morning person or a night person. I can do both, but I find mornings easier to cope with now I’m getting older.
- I use brackets excessively (but my favourite punctuation mark is actually the semi-colon).
- I own around thirty domain names across a variety of extensions. I’m pretty addicted.
- I’m terrible at growing plants. Most of them die when I walk past.
