10 websites I’ve been reading this week

Since it’s the weekend, I thought I’d do a quick round up blog post…so here it is – ten random sites I’ve been reading this week. Taken from my bookmarks, history, and stuff I currently have open. And of course I’ve removed the usual suspects (Facebook, Grooveshark etc.) because they’re a given.

In no particular order…

Wolf-howl.com – An interesting, mostly SEO based, blog with some good advice, and some advice I don’t agree with. But it’s always good to get another take on things.

Flippa – I’m not looking to buy a website, but I’m pretty much addicted to looking at listings. Is that weird? Probably.

The Hairpin: Women laughing alone with salad – An oldie but goodie that I’ve only just come across even though it was published in January. An amusing take on stock images, probably not so amusing if you aren’t into design/web photography.

Google: Disney’s Cinderella images – Don’t know if you’ve seen that image of the royal wedding/Disney’s Cinderella that’s been floating around recently, but I had a feeling the colours on the one I saw had been Photoshopped and I was checking to see if they had. They had. I did think that the coincidence was a bit much, but it’s still amusing.

[various local kitchen websites] – I really need a new kitchen, because mine is falling apart. Two drawers are broken, and one I don’t like to use (because there was a mouse in there that one of the cats lost behind the cupboard once). The cupboards are crappy, the use of space is bad, and I want a dishwasher. I can’t afford a kitchen, but I’m still looking at them. What do you mean it’s going to end badly?

SelfMadeMinds.com It’s not been updated in several months but I came across this site recently and I find the posts pretty interesting. It’s about affiliate stuff and tips on getting the most from websites.

Ajax Loading Images – Really useful if you’re in the market for a loading image, completely useless if you’re not. Nice tool to bookmark though.

30 scribbles and doodles Photoshop brush sets I’ve been downloading lots of Photoshop brushes this week, so here’s just one of many links I’ve bookmarked

DearBlankPleaseBlank.com – Open letters submitted by people on endless topics. It sounds like something I should’ve heard of before, but I haven’t.

ClientsFromHell.net – An old favourite of mine, which always makes me want to laugh and kill people simultaneously (I won’t lie, that does make me feel like a super villain).

WordPress Plugin Directory – Yet another WordPress install for me…that’s what happens when you work for a web hosting company…you get addicted all over again. I was looking for new plugins, but I’ve mostly installed old favourites. Again.

The Guardian’s Technology section – They’ve been doing quite well recently, because they normally post the news hours after other websites like TechCrunch and Mashable, but recently they’ve been on the ball and the posts are (generally) better and occasionally faster. They still have a lot of pretentious/self-indulgent crap going on though, and the game and software reviews are generally way off the mark and very (sometimes months) late. I’ve been reading more from their technology section than usual this week though.

Hahah about the Cinderella thing. I saw that too.

    I’ve never heard of DearBlankPleaseBlank.com before today…

I was ADDICTED to WP Plugins back in the days. Now, I don’t have much use for them, so I’ve stopped browsing it for the past couple of years. Haha.

Hmm, I don’t think I’ve been visiting many sites this week besides the usual Facebook, Twitter, and personal blogs.

Wow thanks for this really nice list, i’ll go check them out and probably bookmark some of them, too :)

  3. Always nice to have a look around in the WordPress Plugin Directory and see which new plugins they launched ;)
