Eat Me Drink Me

Joe was 21 yesterday, and amongst going bowling, going to two restaurants, shopping, playing games and the million other things we did over the weekend, we went to see Alice in Wonderland with a couple of friends.

I’d been looking forward to seeing it for quite a while – and my sister wants to go and see it for her 19th in a couple of weeks, so no doubt I’ll be seeing it again soon – but maybe I overhyped it too much in my head because it just wasn’t that great. Don’t get me wrong, the characters are fantastic, the 3D works really really well, it was just lacking that extra something. The plot was a bit weak and an odd mixture of new and rehashed. Even Tim Burton’s usual gothic-weird touch didn’t really shine through that much, although that may be the Disney element overshadowing it. Alice was great, I really liked her although the odd line was wooden rather than dramatic. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter was fab, and the Red Queen was awesome too. Anne Hathaway as the White Queen was rather annoying as she was sidelined to the extent where she was pretty much useless.

I grew up with the original Disney Alice in Wonderland animated film as one of my firm favourites, and I loved the way in which that really flowed from character to character and situation to situation – it was all very surreal and the songs were so catchy. The new Alice in Wonderland seems to be suffering a slight identity crisis (which fits Alice’s mental attitude and dilemma I suppose), and wasn’t really an adult’s film or a child’s film. I think this is quite cute, has good timing because the other one was so long ago, and pushes through with a great cast and amazing 3D. Oh, and a massive marketing budget and limited edition accessories. I think it’s okay, but I definitely wouldn’t pay £10 to see it again, and I might buy it on DVD when it’s about £5.

Work is really busy, my social life is pretty hectic, and I’m doing what I can to update Blossom. I’ve started another Twitter account so you can keep track of updates here if you want, or click the ‘Site Updates’ link just under the header on every page.

Next weekend it’s Mother’s Day here in the UK, it’s my friend’s birthday the weekend after, and then on the 26th I have my laser eye consultation appointment and it’s my sister’s birthday so there go all my weekends! As always it’s good to see people and do things though. I might be seeing Tabi tomorrow night as well so there goes the rest of my wages for this month!

    I hope you don’t mind that I only skimmed over this entry as opposed to actually reading it — I’m actually going to see Alice In Wonderland tomorrow night, and I don’t want anything ‘ruined’, you know. ^^;

    Glad you liked it, though! I grew up with the original book and shorter adaptions of it, and I’ve only seen the Disney version once or twice. ^^; Can’t wait to see this new version, though, I’m hoping I’ll totally love it! Eeeeee! =3;

    I’m planning to see that in a few weeks. I live in London so all the cinema’s are going to be mega packed with people for a few weeks just like it was for Avatar. I can only see it on weekends so it’s going to be really packed. I’m waiting for it to cool down first then see it. I don’t really like it when it’s too packed.

    I’m looking forward to it so hopefully it’ll be good. Shame that you didn’t think it was that good. I’m going to not hype up about it at all so hopefully I won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t turn out as good as I thought.

    Well, I have no intentions of watching the movie. Haha.

    But anyways, as for work. I know how you feel!!!! =( It’s been SOO crazy for me for the 4 or 5 weeks, STRAIGHT! =( But geez, you have a crazy life outside of work too. My life’s just all work work work, not that I choose to either. =(

    LOL! That’s what I’m talking about! The savings! I do exactly the same thing. I wait for something I really really want to go on a major clearance sale then I buy it! Haha. I hate the idea that if I bought something for this price and a while later its cheaper than it was when I bought it. Ugh I hate that! But anyway, how are you!? I didn’t have time to comment back before.

    I was really excited about seeing Alice in Wonderland as well lol! But I’m not sure anymore after reading what you said about it lol. I might still see it anyway out of curiosity though. Yes it’s Mother’s Day! I am here at university in Portsmouth at the moment but I will be travelling home to London on Friday to spend the weekend with mummy! xx

    I have literally been waiting for this movie to come out since last year! I kept seeing the posters at the movies and I knew I really have to see it. Perhaps it’s the growing up with Alice In Wonderland and it’s also my favorite of all the Disney stories. I may go see it next week. :) I have heard that Tim Burton has lost his touch on this movie, but I’m still curious.

    So it looks like you have a busy busy life, all your weekends are taken but it is good to do for others and for yourself, in the longrun it will be worth it and you’ll be happier. :)
    Since I’m in the US I did not know that Mother’s Day in the UK was next week. Ours is in May and I still don’t know what to get my mom.

    I don’t see the appeal of Tim Burton movies. There was always something missing from his movies I thought.

    It’s nice to hear a fairly unbiased review of it. Most people seem to just rave and rave about it. But I think these same people are just massive Tim Burton fans. So It’s nice to hear someone that both liked and disliked parts. I’m still excited to see it though! :)

    I want to see Alice in Wonderland, but everyone’s making such a hype out of it that I’m a bit burnt out already. I might see it in theaters, but I’m in no rush. Most movies these days just don’t amaze me, so I don’t see this one doing any differently. Although it seems like it would be a treat visually. It’s definitely refreshing to hear someone not rave about it endlessly. ;-)
