Today marks the start of a new budget month for me, as I get paid today. Let’s just say that last month didn’t work out too well where budgeting is concerned! I spent about £150 at the weekend on food, going out, wii games and various other fun things, which means I spent about £500 on food and non-essentials for the month, and that’s with my dad spending about £100 on food shopping for me. Oops. This month will be a better month though!
I’m also failing on the weightloss front because after a good start, I’ve put on a pound. I think I got too complacent, because I had a big chicken meal on Friday and a pizza on Saturday. Plus, although I’ve completed 10/20 workouts on EA Active (woohoo!), I should be moving around more during the day, and at least be going for a walk every lunchtime. I think the problem is that saving money and losing weight are conflicting with each other quite a lot. If I want healthy options, they often cost more. If I don’t bring a sandwich for lunch so I have to walk to the shops and get one, then I’m spending more than making sandwiches at home and bringing them in. Those are just small examples, but they build up. I think the key is not giving up, and making changes I can stick to. So from today I’m going to be doing a 45 minute morning exercise routine, walking every lunchtime, and maybe doing some yoga or similar in the evening. I’m not giving up!
In the good news category, I signed up for organ donation, and I’m meeting up with a woman this weekend to talk about volunteering with a web and marketing project, so my charity work and good deed goals are succeeding at least.
I’ve also been doing a lot of work and planning for Blossom. I signed up for Remember The Milk, and I’ve already completed or mostly completed several tasks. I’ve installed plugins, added Gravatars to comments (though the comment boxes still need a bit of tweaking), created new email addresses and a feedback form (which I must remember to add to the sidebar) and added CommentLuv. It’s a nice way for me and visitors to keep track of what’s going on, and if you add me as a contact you can even add things to my list. That might not work out so well! But seriously, I’m looking a lot more into pages – what’s broken, what’s popular, what needs updating, so any feedback is good. I’ll be adding this page to the sidebar soon, but for now you can contact me here.
So yeah it’s crazy busy, and with adding other goals and projects into my life, I’m pretty much going to be busy constantly. But I feel very productive, if a little tired, and I don’t think I’ll get this time of my life again – young(ish)!, no one to support, no real restrictions or constraints – so I’m going to try and use it as well as I can.
In other news, and to explain this blog title, I was randomly Googling the other day when I came across a website I made in 2001. It’s so bad it’s hilarious! I look back and go ‘Aww’, and I have to laugh at the ‘blog’ entries, especially the one that talks about coloured scrollbars being ‘illegal’ lol!! And me with crappy frames all over the place as well. Still, I guess it shows how much I’ve learned over the past ten years?!

Good luck with the budgeting! I don’t think I spend as much as you, but in emergencies, I do. LOL, not emergencies as in I need a new outfit kind of thing. LOL. So yeah… I’ve been spending quite a bit because of some situations I’ve been in(haha, you may know what I’m talking about…), so yeah… :’(
Anyways, ooh yeah, eating out costs a lot! =( And yeah, it’s hard to get some physical activity when you’re sitting on your butt all day at work. =( Good luck though!
That’s awesome about all of the charity stuff you’re doing! I don’t think I’d want to be an organ donor… =/ Man, you must have a lot of free time to be doing charity/volunteering work… Hehe.
Haha about your site from 10 years ago. You’ve started a little earlier than I did. Well, I think I had a site back in 2000… Haha. I didn’t actually have this site/started blogging until around 2003 or so. But yeah, it is crazy to see how much changes we’ve done to our sites… Haha, I’m embarrassed to even look at my old sites, even layouts. Haha…
I am glad to hear that you’re not giving up:) That’s great. Kudos to you:)

I hope you have better luck budgeting this month! It’s so hard not to spend money sometimes…
I think it’s great that you’re doing all those good deed things
It’s always sooo amusing to look back on designs I made earlier. They’re not even as old as 2001, but they never fail to bring some laughter. I think iframes are the best bad memory I have… Do you remember using a lime green background so the iframes could be transparent?
Loosing weight does cost money especially for things like gym. I heard that eating less will help, so you can try eating a bit less during meals and then snack on fruits in between. I’m trying to do that right now but I always end up eating loads during meals (probably much more than what I should eat).
I have loads of things to do for essencious so might start a list to keep track of it all.
Oh, I did make the hovers pink actually. They are pink, not red. :S
I guess it’s different for me because I can’t exactly leave my work at university… we’re given the work and assignments and then we go do them.
I can understand about that issue with bringing/buying food. Sometimes I am too lazy to make a sandwich and I buy something, but buying food can be really expensive. It saves time to buy, but you’re using money. I guess all in all, it’s best to be prepared.
A pound isn’t much, in my opinion! I’m sure you can get into it again and work just that bit harder to keep losing weight.
I don’t have any of my old sites open. A bit of a shame because I wanted to see how I really did things… though I’m sure I have the coding of a heck of a lot of iframe layouts! I started designing (real designing websites from scratch) in 2002. xD

Aww, I remember my first “web page”. It was a doll site, but basically everything was precoded, I just had to change the title and text. But it gave me that spark to learn more and get me where I am now, so I’m glad I did it.
And gaining a little weight isn’t too bad. I mean, muscle weighs more than fat, so maybe you’ve added some muscle to your body? Just a thought. And anyways, diets are always an up and down experience, so that just means that hopefully it’ll go back down again, lol

I find it hard to stick to a budget. There is just so many things that I want/need. I hope this month works out for you.
I think it is so much fun to look back at old webpages. Shows how much you have grown as a designer.
Yeah my husband and I were having trouble with our money so I finally sat down and made out a budget in Excel for us to look at each month with all our bills and it has really helped us!
I LOVE MY WII ACTIVE! I did one of my custom workouts today for my exercise! Yes yes – never give in, never give up!!! You can do anything that you believe in :]
Yes, live your life, live it up!!!
LOL yeah I have looked back on old entries of mine and just laughed!!!
Good luck with the budgeting! Were all so use to doing and buying certain things, and they always seem to come back and haunt us.
I’m glad your not giving up to losing weight. I think your 45 minute exercises and your lunchtime walking is a great way to lose weight
Aaaw! I remember my first site! It was on those servers like Pizco, though I can’t remember the name. Anyways, I love seeing how I progressed through the years. It makes me feel accomplished
good luck budgeting and saving. haha, it really is hard, so im wishing you the best of luck :]

They should put salads and stuff on the dollar menus at Mcdonalds and stuff, I think it would bring in a lot more business for them to cross sell the cheap and the healthy stuff, otherwise your right, the healthy stuff is usually more expensive, it sucks.
Congrats on volunteering so much.
