Snap Happy

Today was pretty uneventful; went to work, came back, went out for a jog, cooked dinner, sorted through photos on my laptop, re-read some of The Time Traveler’s Wife, played Catan. I’ve upgraded the photo gallery and I’m in the middle of reworking the categories. Over the past few years I’ve taken a few thousand photos, and when I take them I’m either doing it for Facebook or to capture something beautiful that I can play with in Photoshop. The Autumn Splash theme banner is made from photos I took last September/October. I have at least 700-800 photos I’m happy enough to add to the Stock Photo Gallery for people to browse, use and enjoy. Keep an eye out over the next days because I’ll be adding them all and reworking the categories so things are easier to find. I have pictures from all over the world and it’ll be great to share them with you guys.

I noticed someone searched for Jade Goody here a few days ago. Obviously there is a lot of controversy surrounding her decisions and events in her life leading up to her death. I remained quite neutral towards her on Big Brother etc., but I have nothing against her at all. I think she’s incredibly brave and the thought of me in that position in 4-5 years…well, I can’t even begin to imagine what that would be like. As for her selling her story to raise money for her sons – it’s her choice and I don’t hold it against her. As for the magazines continuing to make money after her death – well, she was on public display for a good few years and never seemed to have a problem with it, and I think she’d prefer to be in the public eye rather than disappear completely straight away. It has been blown out of proportion quite a bit though, and if she’d lived for a few more months I think things would have got hysterical.

I’m not sure what to do for Easter. I was thinking of going home, but I think the trains will be packed out and I could really do with saving the money. If I have to go back for second job interviews, it’ll end up costing quite a lot. Yeah…as I pretty much said below, I’m looking for a new job. I’m too far away from the people I love and care about the most, and I don’t want to regret being so far and not spending enough time with people whilst I can. Who knows what will happen tomorrow? So, we’ll see what happens with the 2 jobs I had interviews for recently.

My manager is leaving on Friday, which is a shame because we’ll all miss her. It’s going to be difficult from now on really because the top 5 people for knowledge in our team have all gone now, and it’s a really knowledge-dependent job. Not only are there several different systems online and offline that have to be understood, used, and incorporated and translated into what we actually do, but there’s also the requirement to know what needs doing when to keep everything running and recognise and fix problems. Add into that the technical aspects of HTML, CSS, SEO and photography, and it’s a pretty tall order for someone new (albeit not new to the company) to pick up in 2 weeks. In a way this makes me think that we should all be on more pay than we are! But let’s see what happens

I was going to do some Pilates tonight but I’m pretty tired now so may have an early night and perhaps do some yoga when I wake up tomorrow morning
