House Geek
Yesterday was fun…went to Richard’s and played a board game called The Sorcerer’s Cave with him, Tabi and Kevin. Though it got off to an appalling start with us drawing cards with very difficult enemies – including the sorcerer himself – it quickly got better. Especially when my entire party died and I got to be an ever-growing team of zombies. Or maybe that’s just me.
In complete contrast, today has been very productive. I almost had a heart attack when I opened my post this morning as there was a water bill for the last 6 months and a gas bill for the last 3. Since my overdraft was up to £900 (my limit is £1000), I was scared I’d get charged £30 for going over. Apparently the money’s already gone out of my account though – note to self: must really start to keep track of finances better – so I still have just about enough to live on until I get the electricity bill money from my housemate, plus my pay cheque and by that point I should also have a nice rent cheque from Tabi which should cover my living expenses for a while. Gilly and Bethany were supposed to be coming over to discuss our project, but it never happened. So instead I lazed around until about quarter to two, at which point I decided to walk to Beeston and meet Tabi (and also Kevin) from work. Took me about 40 mins to walk there which isn’t bad going…I arrived early and so priced a few things up from the local shops and stalls - I want to buy new plants for my windowbox and also redesign my back garden, which is a messsss. Went back to Tabi’s and helped her clean and tidy her kitchen and living room, and pack up her kitchen stuff ready to move in here. Which reminds me, I really need to get a move on in clearing/tidying/emptying the stuff I have downstairs which can be reorganised for a lot more space for her stuff.
After that I was kind of tired. Kevin cooked us a stir fry, then I got the bus back with him as he was going gaming with some people who live next door to Rich (i.e. near me). Got back to my house and was fully intending to sit down – then I had to try out the new secateurs (sp?) I bought and trimmed the tree at the front and the hedgish stuff at the back. Phew.
There is still so much stuff to do here, it’s crazy. But once it’s all sorted out, it’s manageable for the rest of the year. Stick down the loose bathroom tiles and possibly replace a couple, organise the stuff downstairs and in my room and clean properly under the bed, possibly do a bit of repainting and the house is ready to go (garden’s a different story, and the washing machine and taps are leaking a lot and the shower a little but I can’t really do those myself) until Tabi and Sarah-Jane move their stuff in and we have to sort it all out. Should be okay though, especially as they are moving in months apart. I’m becoming a house geek again…
5 commentsCounting down…
Yesterday started off quite boring, I spent a lot of time on the Internet until Gilly rang for a nice long chat, which brightened up my day a lot. Whilst I was talking to her, Kieran called and ended up coming over for the evening . It was nice to get out of the house for a bit and do some mad driving :p I asked him if he missed the old days of my first year of uni and he said he definitely did. We watched some videos I had on my computer of first year antics and laughed a hell of a lot.
I’m still waiting for my other housemate to move out. We haven’t been getting on so well recently (to put it euphemistically). She’s very aggressive despite her height, kind of like one of those really annoying yappy small dogs
Personally, I just like to get on with my life but having no friends other than her boyfriend and no hobbies (not even TV really), she spends her time obsessing about everything to do with the house. And thus also me. I’ve been putting up with her crap without yelling and swearing (like her), without slamming doors (like her), but by whining to my lovely friends a lot, lol. I could go on, but she’s leaving soon – despite yelling that she doesn’t like living with me, she’s been sticking around for over a month since she finished uni. This is despite the fact that she could live at her boyfriend’s, and she’s recently started renting another flat. Yeah, I’m confused too.
I’ll probably post about all the stuff she’s done once she’s moved out. Everyone she’s lived with here – totalling 4 people on and off since she moved in, not including me – has complained about her. The irony is is that she thinks her and her boyfriend are perfect housemates – so not true. But then I don’t expect people to be perfect, whereas she does and is completely blind to all her own faults. Whereas from experience, I’ve learned to let things slide, she shouts from the rooftops about every tiny thing. Not really her fault because though she’s very childish (my dad genuinely thought she was 18 rather than 22) with her temper, she doesn’t have anything else to take her mind off it, spending the majority of the time in her room doing nothing. Our other main housemate this year said she got way too obsessed with cleaning (one week I counted that she cleaned the bathroom three times, and those were only the times I was in to witness!). She also mocked her for saying her main hobby was cooking, but only ever getting her boyfriend to cook fajitas from a packet mix and then constantly saying how good he was at making them (all you have to do is throw the ingredients in a pan with some chicken and veg.).
So in a way I feel kind of sorry for her. She has a couple of friends that usually make excuses not to see her, and she’s really obsessed with one of them (I’ll tell that story another time along with the bed saga, the cleaning tale, and the plumbing epic), she never has any money, and her boyfriend works full time in a betting shop. However, it’s hard to remember how tough she has it when she’s being deliberately spiteful and just incredibly stupid. She can’t understand anything, which makes me impatient when I’ve explained the most basic thing several times and it just goes around in circles. I guess this is what you get with a non-dyslexic who can’t spell ‘yesterday’, puts an apostrophe in ‘knows’ and sticks notes on the bathroom door (in my house) telling us we should clean the toilet with a ‘loofah’ (rather than a toilet brush). I have been tempted to clean the toilet with her loofah on more than one occasion, I have to say.
The only good thing about her staying is that it makes me grateful every day for what I have, especially my friends who are all fantastic. I’m so lucky to know such great people, and I miss the people I barely see any more lots
But I’m always grateful for my friends…I’ll be happy once my new housemates move in. I’m not expecting miracles like the one that was Alana last year, but they are reasonable people who are willing to pull together with me as a team and that will make all the difference. For example, we’ve already agreed that we’ll pool all our kitchen stuff and buy anything else we need together, meaning that the kitchen won’t be overcrowded with 3x everything and certain people taking up all the space and then deliberately saying we aren’t allowed to use her stuff though she uses everyone else’s (guess who). Plus, they are interested in a lot of the same things as me, and I’m really looking forward to coming in after a day at uni/work/out with friends and finding them playing the wii – silly, simple things but they make all the difference.
Anyway, I’m off to the gym and then I’m going to read in the library. Nice and free, since I have no money
Reason for not blogging #5945839483
It’s been over a month since the last blog – why? Mainly because of the million and one things I’ve been doing, as usual…So I thought a bumper blog was in order to give you the latest updates on my life.
I’ve finished my degree, and on the 9th July following official graduation, I’ll be Jennifer Brown BA (Hons.). Yep, I have letters!! If there’s anyone still reading from when I first started blogging 7 years ago (and by God you deserve some kind of award) when I was a moody little teenager – well, I almost feel like an adult now. Almost
Someone commented on my last post asking for my opinion of my university. Since I don’t want to get sued, if you’re still interested in knowing, please IM me on messenger – stargirldotorg at hotmail.com.

Followed by meeting up with friends for lunch (most notably Sarah, Gilly, Bethany, Nick, Rachel and Rebecca) before heading to the free strawberries and wine celebrations for third year English students, where I also saw an old friend, Jamie and met a new girl called Rowena. Then onto meeting Joe and heading onto to Tabi’s.
14th One of my housemates moved out.
15th Very spontaneous meeting up with people – Tabi text me, we ended up going to Sainsbury’s and then ended up going to Warhammer World to grab Al and Joe for board games at my house. Kevin also came over, and we were later joined by Rich. Me, Al and Joe ended up playing Risk till 5 am….and we didn’t even finish the game :S
16th Worked. Had lunch with Joe by the lake.
17th Went shopping. Rich came over.
18th Went to Pizza Hut for dinner with Joe and ate far too much…
Still to come: One more housemate to leave, Tabi moving in (30th June), Hannah coming to visit (2nd – 5th/6th ish of July), my party (4th-6th July), Graduation itself (9th July), going to Italy to see Tom with Hannah (10th – 15th July), Shakespeare play/picnic outside Nottingham Castle (22nd or 24th August), people’s birthdays, redecorating the house, sorting out the garden, working on new Internet projects and probably more work.
So yeah, I’ve been kind of busy. I skipped a house party and I’m missing a BBQ and pool party because it’s at home, and I’m still in Nottingham for the forseeable future.
Hmm, and Rich has just suggested we go out for lunch. I do like having free time though, just wish I had more money…Oh, and if you’re really that interested, there are tons more photos and videos of what I’ve been up to on Facebook. If you don’t already have me, feel free to add me.
