Rants

One of the first things I do when I get up in the morning is tear a page off the mini cat calendar that Em got me. This may sound weird, but I’ve found that how my day will turn out is often represented by the cat featured. Today’s cat looks incredibly surprised, but that still didn’t prepare me for what I was about to see. I went to the library, and as I left for my seminar, I walked past a girl who had an electric toothbrush and was brushing her teeth (without any toothpaste I might add), in the middle of the bottom floor of the library, i.e. surrounded by staff and the students entering and leaving. So that was the odd thing that happened today.

The rest of this entry is going to be composed of rants, other than the fact that Sarah came to visit me this weekend and I had a great time, and she is now detoxing. So yay to healthiness!

Really pissing me off at the moment is the whole people asking for directions and then not believing me thing. I guess I should expect it because a) I walk around Notts a hell of a lot, being car-less and vaguely considerate of the environment and b) they always want to find a place that’s situated in a really obscure location compared to the place they currently are. Samples that are the most annoying: I was walking by the canal and some guy stopped me to ask for directions. I recommended that he go up to the main road because 1) it actually has road signs and 2) it’s a lot less limiting than walking down a canal, where you can only go in one direction. His reply was something along the lines of, ‘Well I want to walk by the canal because it’s so nice here’. Yes, it IS nice, but that DOES NOT mean it will go exactly where you want it to go, or be on the right side of where you want to go, and in fact there is no guarantee that you can just easily get away from it if you walk for more than about 5 mins. Gah.

Second e.g. – I’d just bought my new fridge freezer from the local retail park. Now this retail park is not big. It has maybe 6 shops, ALL of which are visible as you enter the car park, and all of which have massive signs, probably about 10 feet high. Some woman parks her car and then stops me. ‘Excuse me, is there a Laura Ashley [old fashioned clothes/home shop] here?’ I replied, ‘Erm, no, but there’s one in town.’

‘So there’s no Laura Ashley here?’

I patiently replied, ‘No, but there’s one in the city centre.’

‘I KNOW there’s one in the city centre, I was asking about HERE. I’m SURE there was one here. I’m going to go and ask someone else!!!!!!!!!!!’

Fine lady, whatever. There’s not been a Laura Ashley there in the time I’ve lived here, and asking someone else isn’t going to make one magically appear.

I guess that’s what you get for trying to help people…

Rant #2 – Uni seems to be a place for congregating REALLY IRRITATING English students (myself and a VERY few others excepted, of course :p). One girl today actually asked if the seminar could be moved to a different time because she didn’t like the way she had straight lectures between 9 and 1. So basically, she wanted to alter the timetables of 21 other people, including a lecturer, just because she didn’t feel she should have a crap Monday morning. Despite the fact that she CHOSE to take this module and knew EXACTLY when the times would be for it. How the hell do people get this idea that they should be, omg SO entitled to stuff? Really? Not only that but she had an incredibly annoying voice, and insisted on voicing her (usually useless or boring) opinions on everyone else. There’s a similar guy in my seminar who exudes complete arrogance, but at least some of what he says is remotely interesting. Gah.

I hate people.

*hugs* I’m sorry about your day.

As for that girl who asked for the lecture to be changed to another time… HAHAHAHA. Wow, now THAT was a good laugh!! I have NEVER witnessed that before, and if that did happen, I’m sure that the whole class would laugh! That was REALLY funny!!!! Wow. Hehe.

But yeah, I do have some stuff I “base” my day on, like how my day would turn out, also… Haha. We’re both weird. =P

Eh? Someone brushing their teeth at the library? That’s odd and a little disturbing.

No offence to the lady but she’s a very bad listener. It’s not like you didn’t already answer her question. Oh well…maybe one Laura Ashley did magically appear in front of her and the world was complete again.

I doubt that the schedule for that lecture will change just because one person is requesting it to suit her needs. Maybe she could tape the lecture, go elsewhere, get back and then listen to the tape at night. Tada, a lecture in a subliminally tape style. :P .

I get people on campus at my school asking where certain buildings are too and I’ll just do this sort of blink and then point in the general direction (once it was the building that the person was right in front of… With a giant sign right there with the name of the building…).

And I have never witnessed anyone asking for the lecture time to be changed before.. Maybe lobbying the professor to change the date of an exam (doesn’t work) but never to change the entire time…

The people you wrote about in this entry all seem pretty “lol”.

She brushed her teeth at the library? WTF? If she really HAD TO, couldn’t she at least have used the bathroom?

It’s funny with people who think the whole world evolves around them. That girl with the apparantly shitty scedule seem to be either extremely stupid or extremely selfish. Or maybe both.

I wish things would magically appear in front of me when I can’t find the things I’m looking for. I’m afraid so far that haven’t happened. Maybe it did for the lady.

Ok… The woman that asked about the Laura Ashley seems a bit… weird. I mean, you said there wasn’t one there, so why not believe you?
