Getting Ready

Thanks everyone for your congrats on my results, I feel loved

Now I definitely know I’ve got into Nottingham, I’ve started getting more stuff ready. I’m working though my ‘pre-arrival reading list’, which has around 20 + books on it. So far I’ve read all the fiction apart from ‘Frankenstein’, which I’m nearly halfway through. I put off getting any more of the books until I got my results, but now I’ve ordered most of the rest from Amazon, so they should come soon :)

We went to Ikea yesterday and I bought some glasses, a couple of plates and bowls, a blanket, bedding (for a single bed – nooooo), drink mats and a pink desk lamp. I still need some more stuff, but I don’t want to buy too much, cart it all the way there, not use it for a term, and then cart it all the way back home, so I’m trying to be careful. Which is a bit of a joke, since I’m an impulse buyer shopaholic type person :P

Today I had an opticians appointment (fascinating I know), and I still need to get my hair cut and then I’m all ready. I got a form from the university which I need to attach 4 passport photos to, so I got 12 photos done in a photo booth today. I still can’t believe I paid £10.50 for 12 photos in which I look absolutely awful lol.

My family’s been driving me crazy recently. My dad said we should go out for a meal to celebrate my results, which I thought was nice of him (although maybe my mum suggested it to him, I don’t know). He really doesn’t care about my results, maybe even me in general; he asked me if I was doing psychology, which I haven’t done since I was 14 or 15. When we finally got to the restaurant, he and Lara were in the worst moods ever, and it completely ruined it for me. Then he had the nerve to complain that the atmosphere in the restaurant was bad. Finally, he criticised the way I stacked the plates, saying that ‘reading and writing’ was clearly useless in life. I was like, wtf? So by doing that he completely undermined the whole celebratory aspect of the dinner. Now I know how you really feel, dad. Thanks for that.

Last night I couldn’t sleep, so I watched two films and listened to some crap music. As I was rewinding the films, I caught part of this programme around 4 am. It was all about online businesses and buying stuff online, and it was full of really basic questions that I found very amusing. My favourite one was the presenter asking, ‘Do you need software to use a credit card online?’. How someone can say that without laughing I really don’t know :P It tickles me though because it reminds me of how much I’ve learnt over the past few years. I remember when I was 11 and got my first computer, and I could not do anything except open a Word document and play Solitaire. I couldn’t even copy and paste. Then there’s the phase I went through at about 14, where I did nothing but go on the Internet 24/7 for a while. Now I’m here, I can do most of the stuff I want to do, but I’m not on the Internet all that much except in the holidays. Almost perfectly balanced, but still keeping in touch with the two worlds :P

Comments will be returned as ever

Everyone looks hideous in passport photos, for some reason! One of the biggest mysteries in the world, I’d say :P I love Ikea, I could live in that place, lol.

  2. Laura says:

Aww your dad is mean, he really shouldn’t have done that. Great way to spoil a happy celebration =( I hope you still had a nice meal anyway hun. Sorry it turned out like that though. Gosh, I’m so proud of you! Buying all your stuff for uni, you’ve grown up SO fast. I sound like an old biddy saying that, lol. But it’s true, I remember I used to talk to you when you were about 15/16 and I was only 13/14. Those were the days, hehe. Good luck reading all your books! =)

  3. Engel says:

Everyone seems to be going shopping… whatever it is for. School shopping, pet shopping, house stuff shopping, or just whatever shopping. Gha! I want to go too x[ Why listen to crappy music when you can probably get a hold of some good music? LOL.

  4. Lucy says:

Congratulations on your results (sorry I’m a bit late)!

I know how family can get annoying. I’m sure your dad means well. The statement about reading and writing being useless is rediculous though.

I hate when I can’t sleep, and have to resort to shows like that. lol Some people have no idea about computers; Its scary. :P

  5. Jennifer says:

Tehehe, that program sounds funny. I’ts amazing how much I have learnt in a year. (Its twice as amazing how much I need to learn! :P ).

It’s a shame about your meal, I hate going for a meal with my family, something allways had to go wrong.

Hehehe, buying your own plates! WoW! We still have the plates my mum bought for university. They were outcasts from some factory or other. My mum was skint. lol! I’m sure you’ll use whatever useless things you buy. If only for propping up widows or something!

  6. Chau says:

Wow, good luck reading those books!!! Hehe, I love shopping also! Too bad I can’t buy much though… Wow, 4 passport pictures?! When I took my passport picture at Walgreens, they gave me 4, so that was pretty good, especially when it was like $8. Wow, I’m sorry to hear about your family driving you crazy! That happens to everybody!! Hehe, I couldn’t really sleep last night either… Anyways, I have to get going, so take care!

  7. kate says:

maybe your dads got cold feet on you going to university? thats the sort of person that my dad is like. Just ignore him and do what you have to do! just think you wont have to look at his moody face when your enjoying yourself at university!. I cant believe that you paid £10.50 for 12 photos either :O! thats a rip off. When are you actually going to uni, am gonna miss you :( xx make sure u keep in touch jenni.

  8. Lissi says:

Aww I’m sorry about your Dad. Maybe he’s going to really miss you?
I’m an impulse buyer too. lol. I just love it!

  9. Tiff kath says:

Lo Jenni! Maybe you’re dad was just being moody knowing you’ll go to the university and all. Still give him a chance. Dads are like that I guess. hehe. Ooh what books are you reading? Hehe. I also have a ton of books to read. Hopefully I can finish them after school or something. I also remember when we got our very first computer. I was 7 i think and i still couldn’t do anything but then games like jumpstart would come out and I would play them till my eyes hurt. Haha. Well tc!! Good luck in everything!! =):P

  10. Rose says:

Wow, if you’ve bought al your uni stuff from Ikea you’ll have the funkiest room there! My mom insists on buying me stuff for uni already. If she sees something that’s “cheap” she buys. I’m fed up of her seeing the most unexciting thing in the world such as a towel, and her call me really load across the shop saying “look how cheap this is! We’ll put it up for uni.”
    Hehehe.

    Anyway, congrats again Jenni!

  11. emma says:

hope u have fun at uni :) i bet your dad is being moddy because he doesn’t want you to go ;)

  12. Nora says:

Awwe, you’re dad meant well i’m sure lol :) The stuff you got sounds cute!!! On and Congrats (but late) on your results :D

  13. Heather says:

I am sure you dad meant to make the night special… dads are like that where they say the wrong things. Its funny I was 11 when I first started really getting into computers and learning the basics.

  14. Puma-Girl says:

I’m 14 and I’m obsessed with the computer rite now! You are so lucky you are over it! But thanks to my busy life I don’t get too much free time… anyways it must be lots of fun shopping for uni!;)

  15. Sally says:

Congratulations on your results. I was 11 when I got my first computer too. I don’t think your dad meant to ruin the night though, sometimes dads say things that they don’t mean – my dad does all the time.

  16. Jeanelle says:

Sorry about your dad. :( He was probably just having a bad day.

I can’t believe you got your own computer when you were 11, i got mine like 2 months ago and i’m 13 lol. and im online every single minute of the day. lol. i wanna get over it, but i just can’t! lol i guess once school work attacks me once again i’ll be on less. lol.

  17. Megan says:

When I was 14 I was on the internet all the time too. I’m 15 now, and I still am. Maybe one day I’ll be balanced.

  18. Julia says:

I love ikea they have some great stuff. i got a funky lamp there for really cheap!

  19. Cat says:

Hmm I can’t remember how old I was when I got my own computer…
But I’m prolly still of obsessed as ever with the internet :P

  20. Tara says:

Dude! Sounds like your life is awesome right now! Heh heh how did it feel to get accepted? Wow…it’s like your dad is really an idiot. -sigh- That would have pissed me off. Seems like he forgot about your acceptance. You were listening to crap music? xD Interesting…heh you’re just like me. At 14…be online 24/7. XP Stupid addictive internet..

  21. Tina says:

We do passport photos at work, hehe. :) I’m a photo processing operator, coz you asked so I’m answering. Yeah, so at the end of the traineeship I’ll have a retail qualification :tv:

Wow, sorry but your dad sounds really rude. I’m sorry you have to put up with that, he should appreciate having such an intelligent daughter instead of throwing it back in your face!!

  22. Lisa says:

Well your dad deserves a smack in the mouth for that, geesh, parents sometimes. Anyway, it’s hard to believe you’re going away so soon! I guess it’s because there was a whole holiday time before you found out your results, but I always thought you’d have ages between finding out your results, and sorting out your stuff to leave. Weird. Very short notice, it seems. lol.
I love Webwise, it’s so sweet with its innocence. It’s like ICT classes that try and say “to turn on the computer, press the ON button” -rolls eyes-

  23. Nathalie says:

Hi! I’m kind of new in this blogg but my first impression was, “Oh, that’s a hole lot of text!” But then i read the last part and continued to read backwards. It was interesting. :D Your dad, I’m so sorry but this is the feeling I’ve got, was a piece of shit when he said that! i mean, That’s not a way to celebrate his dauther! Geez… Well hope You’ll have a great time in Hottingham, Hugs and Kisses Milliway-Nathalie

  24. Rachel says:

Yay! Well done on getting into Nottingham, and 20+ books! A lot, but wouldn’t take me that long to read :p

Ikea stuff rocks, but costs a lot which is annoying.

About your dad, maybe hes just worried about his little girl going off to university and was panicky so he was being over-protective and picky with you? I’m sure he loves you really.

And i love web programmes like that, theyre funny!

  25. Anna says:

Congratulations on your exam results & getting in to Nottingham Uni. :D Good luck with readin those books. Lol.

Your dad sounds a bit mean. He should know what subjects you took & what subjects you didn’t for A level.

The stuff you bought sound cool. I find it strange that the Uni need 4 passport photos, if they weren’t so expensive then it wouldn’t be that bad.

  26. Frodo Baggins says:

Congrats and good luck! I am sure it’ll be great at Nottingham :)

Wow, it seems everyone knows Ikea! And it used to be just a little Swedish company :P

Haha! Software to use a credit card online… *laughs* Some people not knowing computers at all are amuzing. My mother just freaks and scream for help :P

  27. Rachel says:

OMG me and my mom love Ikea. Its so cool!
Uni sounds like a lot of fun (after the hard work that is :S: )

I’m still going through that phase where I cant get off the net! The net is my world…how sad lol

  28. kae says:

I remember, when i first started going on the computer, lik eyou said, all i would do is play online games, or pinball, that came with my computer. I got my first computer now, i am 11. And my new phase is i spend like 24/7 on the computer. I think its just a thing that people go through when they love the computer and all. Evantually, you’ll balence everything out, just like you said.
in some way i think i am like you…

  29. Becki says:

aw, your daddys mean. I would have yelled at him lol, but I would have gotten grounded.
I love house shopping, even though my mom does it, i usually go with her to pick stuff out

  30. Renee says:

Gorgous Site the tutorials were awesome and came in handy. That’s really mean of your dad but what can you do i guess

  31. Kerri says:

I’ve never been to Ikea but they do sell some great stuff don’t they?
I hate passport photos I look awful in them. LOL I think I look awful in all photos really! I need to get my passport sorted out, but I don’t want a horrible passport photo!
    £10.50 for 12? that’s expensive!
Reading and writing useless? It’s not! Hmm, shame about your dad being in a mood at the restaurant.
LOL that programme sounds facinating! lol yeah how can no one not laugh at that quote!

  32. Keke says:

Well, honestly, you’re lucky to even have a dad. I’m 13 and my dad died and I will never get to hate mines….But that was very rude of what your dad did.

  33. Jenny says:

Aw that sucks about your dad. He probably didn’t mean it like it came out though. 20 books is a lot to read! How long have you had to read them? Good luck getting through them all!

  34. Baoxin says:

Most of my furniture at home is from Ikea.XD I think my mom’s a big fan of it or something.

Im sorry about what happened with your dad.Im sure he didn’t mean it that way.;)

  35. Alexis says:

    I’m a shopaholic too. :grr:

  36. Carolyn says:

That was unkind of your dad to spoil your meal :( aww wow you’re going to uni.. you must be really smart hehe.. unlike me lol
Ooh sounds like you’ve got some nice stuff, uni will be fun. Lol i’ve heard tales of getting pissed there. Well good luck

  37. Vicky says:

I love Ikea, they have some really cool and funky stuff! I bet you can’t wait for Uni to start! I hope you do really well! I hate pasport photos, they make everyone look really bad!
